The works of legendary Australian jewellery designer Margot McKinney will be on display at the Museum of Brisbane with a new exhibition opening in June.
The exhibition is titled World of Wonder: Margot McKinney and features four sub-sections – family history, world of pearls, world of opals and world of colour.
The exhibition opens on 18 June and closes on 6 November.
The McKinney family is synonymous with the Australian jewellery industry, with five generations worth of connection to luxury design.
McKinney has collaborated with pearl farmers, opal miners, diamond merchants and gem-cutters from right across the world during her career, working with rare and precious materials as the centrepiece of her designs.
Museum of Brisbane director Renai Grace said the exhibition celebrated five generations of history.
“World of Wonder: Margot McKinney will blend never-before-seen, intimate family archives with opulence in a multi-faceted exhibition of breathtaking proportions,” she said.
McKinney said the exhibition features deeply personal stories from the family business.
“The exhibition will show the rich tapestry of our fifth generation family business over our long history,” McKinney said.
As a part of this year’s Australia Day Honours, McKinney was recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) “for service to the arts as a designer and through charitable organisations.”
