Patek Phillipe’s Sky Moon Tourbillon features 12 complications on the main face and underside, with functions such as cathedral minute repeating, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, moon phases, leap year indication, sidereal time, sky chart, phases and orbit of the moon.
A new world record has been set for the most expensive watch to be sold in an online auction, commanding a $US5,815,300 ($AU7,746,129) price tag.
The timepiece in question is a Patek Phillipe complication Sky Moon Tourbillon and was sold at Christie’s Top Of The Time auction, based in Hong Kong.
The white gold watch features 12 complications on the main face and underside, with functions such as cathedral minute repeating, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, moon phases, leap year indication, sidereal time, sky chart, phases and orbit of the moon.
Christie’s head of watches for the Asia Pacific, Alexandre Bigler, said that this auction was evidence that enthusiasm for these timepieces remains high despite pessimism about the global economy.
“There continues to be an extremely vibrant market for watches across the world, evidenced through the avid global bidding this sale witnessed,” he told WatchPro.
Overall sales from the auction exceeded $US8.4 million ($AU12.63 million) with 93 per cent of items put up for auction finding a new home.
