Sotheby’s Geneva Luxury Week will be headlined by the sale of a fancy vivid blue diamond which is expected to carry a price tag of $US25 million ($AU37.6 million).
Known as the Bulgari Laguna Blue, the 11.16-carat pear-shaped diamond is owned by a European collector who purchased it in 1979.
It is the largest diamond ever set in a Bulgari piece and is considered the most valuable gemstone ever sold by the renowned jewellery house.
Head of jewellery at Sotheby’s Geneva, Olivier Wagner, said it was a diamond that boasted impressive credentials.
“The Bulgari Laguna Blu is an extraordinary gemstone in every way,” he told Rapaport News.
“This unmodified pear-shaped, blue diamond has received the highest grade for a blue diamond by the Gemological Institute of America acknowledging its mesmerising color and hue. It is bound to become the object of any collector’s dream.”
Sotheby’s will display the diamond in New York before it hits the auction block during the 12-16 May event.
