Sydney-based jewellery designer Cindy Xu has won the ‘Best Gemstone’ award at the 2024 Milano Jewelry Week in Italy.
The owner of Cindy Xu Eternal Jewelry, based on George Street in Sydney, entered her opal brooch – Whirlpool Stingray – into the competition.
The piece features a blend of black opal, mother of pearl, and titanium and depicts a stingray at the heart of a wave.
Whirlpool Stingray was showcased at Milano’s Artistar Jewelry Exhibition alongside four other pieces from Xu’s Eternal Wildlife Collection: Golden Scarab, Overjoy Magpie, and Guardians.
Xu said she took great pride in showcasing the natural beauty of uniquely Australian gemstones.
“I’m surprised and excited to be recognised on such an international stage; it is an honour,” she said.
“Opal gems hold a cherished place in my heart. Each stone’s vibrant patterns possess a unique story waiting to be told, and I want to transform them into exquisite jewellery that narrates tales of nature and wildlife preservation.”
These designs will published in the Artistar Jewels book in recognition of the award.
