Punishment for jewellery snatch and grab in Queensland

Jarvis Anthony David Henricks stole a $39,000 bracelet from a store at Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore on 29 July.

As reported by the Courier Mail, police prosecutor Mel Pyke told the court the 18-year-old assessed the jewellery store by sending videos and photos of its layout before asking to inspect the piece.

He viewed the piece twice before snatching the bracelet and sprinting from the store, entering an Uber waiting nearby; however, he was intercepted by police a short time later. The bracelet was recovered.

Magistrate Rod Madsen told the 18-year-old he was fortunate police found him quickly, as the consequences would’ve been more severe had they not.

Henricks pleaded guilty to seven charges including one count of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence and stealing. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for 18 months.

Arrest made in Melbourne

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at a jewellery store in Melbourne in the past week, which generated headlines.

Police were called to the Craigieburn shopping centre on 20 October after two men used steel bars to shatter glass cabinets and steal jewellery, fleeing the scene after being confronted by an employee.

A 33-year-old Heidelberg Heights man has been charged with two counts of affray, two counts of theft, two counts of criminal damage, theft of a motor vehicle, and possession of an imitation firearm.
