The obverse (front side) features Jody Clarke’s right facing profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Royal Diadem crown along side the 2 pounds denomination, and the inscriptions: DG REG FD (acronym definition: by the grace of god Queen and defender of the Faith).

The reverse displays Philip Nathan’s interpretation image of Britannia common at the gold and platinum coins in the series. Nathans’s design was once chosen by the Royal Mint following an art contest in 1987 and offers a up to date interpretation of the historic Britannia figure, inspired by the Celtic Queen Boadicea. Reappearing for the first time in this series after being replaced in 2008 at the 50 pence with a up to date design with royal emblems.
