Rio Tinto has unveiled its first jewellery piece featuring diamonds mined from the Argyle Mine since its closure in 2020, the Argyle Romantica.
The Argyle Romantica will be showcased in Sydney before being offered for sale.
With an estimated value of $6 million, the ring features 3.42 carats of rare pink, red and blue fancy colour diamonds.
The ring was created by Singapore-based rare gem specialist John Glajz as a part of his work with the Argyle Pink Diamond Icon Partners program.
“Encapsulating a rich history and extraordinary provenance, the Argyle Romantica is a piece of art and an heirloom for tomorrow,” Glajz said.
Located in the Kimberley region, the Argyle Mine was the source of more than 90 per cent of the world’s pink diamonds and closed in 2020 after more than 30 years.
Over the period of operation, the mine produced more than 865 million carats of rough diamonds.
