Sydney jeweller Stefano Canturi has created a remarkable one-of-a-kind diamond-encrusted watch with an eye-popping price tag.
The piece features a Swiss-sourced ETA movement and more than 330 natural diamonds, totalling 50 carats.
In an interview, Canturi said that after more than 35 years spent designing luxury jewellery, he was interested in a new challenge.
“Everything’s about timing. “You don’t try to do a watch when you’re ten years in business, it makes no sense, it’s too complicated,” he told the Australian Financial Review.
“I just thought, ‘you know what? After years of making beautiful high jewellery, this is the perfect time’.”
Canturi confirmed that one offer of $530,000 for the watch had been received so far and said that one of the key challenges was finding a recognisable design without a logo.
“In the early days, I used to sell Jaeger-LeCoultre, a beautiful watch, which I loved, loved, loved, and I fell in love with the whole world of watches. But we made the decision not to carry other brands in order to concentrate on our own designs,” he said.
“I would love to do the next piece and the next piece. It’s about what I can do here in my beautiful atelier and a goal would be to have something new released every few years.”
Canturi operates three stores in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
