Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in India, the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Signature 2022 has been postponed indefinitely, according to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The IIJS Signature 2022 is organised by the government-backed GJEPC and scheduled for 6 to 9 January at the JIO World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
The decision to call-off the event was based on consultations with GJEPC committees, exhibitors, trade associations, as well as international and domestic buyers who were scheduled to travel to India for the exhibit.
According to Colin Shah, chairman, GJEPC “all requisite permissions to organise the show” are all set in compliance with health and medical guidelines, but a collective decision was made to postpone the event in light of the surge of COVID-19 cases in India.
“[The] Council is extremely thankful and obliged to the Government of Maharashtra, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, Exhibitors, National and International visitors for extending their wholehearted support in these trying times,” he added.
The Indian government reported a sudden increase on 31 December 2021 with 22,775 new cases and 27,553 at the start of the New Year (1 January). Daily cases have started trending below 10,000 cases from late November until the last several weeks of December.
