Luxury timepiece manufacturer Patek Philippe has released its first new watch line in 25 years.
The Cubitus is reportedly aimed at younger consumers. It has a square case with rounded corners. It comes in three distinct styles: steel with an olive dial, a steel and rose gold two-one model with a blue dial, and a complicated platinum with a blue dial.
Prices start around $USD40,000 and climb as high as $USD88,000. Before the unveiling of Cubitus, Patek Philippe’s most recent line was the Twenty-4 collection, released in 1999.
The brand described the release of the collection as a ‘milestone in the company’s history’ in a statement; however, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing thus far.
“Rumours of the Cubitus launch have been circling since as early as 2021, when eagle-eye watch fans discovered a trademark had been filed for the name,” writes Nick Hall of Man of Many.
“With that reveal, speculation mounted that Patek Philippe was looking to introduce a new range, and it wasn’t long before references to the Cubitus began regularly appearing on watch forums and Instagram pages in the lead-up to the October 17 Munich showcase. Then came a supposed leak.
“An advertisement in Fortune Magazine gave a first brief glimpse at the new watch, sending the watch community into a frenzy and spurring anxiety (presumably) in the hearts of Patek Philippe retailers worldwide. The jury is still out on whether the ‘leak’ was a genuine accident or just a well-timed marketing stunt, but it matters little now.”
Based in Switzerland, Patek Philippe was established in 1839.
